  A  man, identified simply as Chima, and his female lover, have allegedly hacked his wife at Omerelu community, in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. He  gathered that trouble started when the wife, identified only as Wakaego, confronted him for bringing his girlfriend to their home on Monday. She was subsequently attacked by the duo. The victim’s elder brother, Anayo Warisi, while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, said his sister was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital. He said, “It was this morning (Monday); my sister’s husband brought another woman to their house. So, she asked him why he did that. He started beating her. “Then he cut her all over her body with a machete. But her leg was worse. My siblings took her to a hospital in Elele, but she was rejected because the injury was serious.   Governor  Sule, while reacting to the incident on Tuesday at the Government House, Lafia, laid emphasis on the level of insecurity in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area where a teacher working with the Government Science Secondary School was recently killed, among other security issues in the LGA. He said, “The spate of insecurity in Nasarawa Eggon LGA is unfortunate. Three residents were recently kidnapped but my administration is determined to handle the situation. “I had no idea that some of our commissioners do not have police attached to them until today, and other commissioners have three or four policemen because of the situation they find themselves. This is very wrong. We should seek police protection.   The national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has said the union will have a meeting with the Federal Government to address its ongoing strike action, today. The PUNCH  had reported that since the end of the renegotiation meeting led by Prof. Nimi Briggs, the government had not made effort to discuss their decision with the union’s executives. Likewise, after the submission of the ASUU report by the Briggs committee, the president gave the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu a two-week ultimatum to address the demands of ASUU.  However, the two weeks elapsed three weeks ago, yet, nothing was done to forestall an extension of the strike by one month strike, which started on August 1, 2022.   The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu, to approach all aggrieved Yoruba leaders and politicians and ensure genuine reconciliation with them. He urged Yoruba leaders and politicians to forgive one another in the interest of Yoruba race.
